PSALM 9:9-20
METER: 10 10 11 11
SUGGESTED TUNE: LYONS OR HANOVER
This is in the same meter as the hymn "O Worship the King"
1. The Lord is a strong-hold for the op-pressed,
When trou-bled times come, God is our strong-hold.
Those who know you, Lord, will put their trust in you.
You do not a-ban-don those who come to you.
2. Sing praise to the Lord who in Zi-on dwells;
A-mong peo-ples all let his deeds be told.
He who blood a-veng-es is mind-ful of them;
He does not for-get the af-flict-ed one's cry.
3. Be gra-cious to me! Lord, see how I hurt
From my en-e-mies. You save me from death,
That I may re-call all your prais-es, and in
Je-ru-sa-lem I may re-joice 'cause you save.
4. The na-tions have sunk in-to their own pit;
They have been caught in their ver-y own trap.
God made him-self known by his judg-ments so just;
The wick-ed are caught by their ver-y own deeds.
5. The wick-ed shall die--'tis their dest-i-ny;
All those who for-get and turn from the Lord.
The need-y shall not al-ways for-got-ten be,
The hope of the poor shall not per-ish for aye.
6. A-rise then, O Lord! Let flesh not de-fy,
But let all the lands be-fore you be judged.
O make them a-fraid, Lord, and make them to know
That all of the na-tions are mor-tal and frail.
