PSALM 89:20-37

This is the meter of such hymns as "Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise" and "My Jesus, I Love Thee"

1. "I have found my serv-ant, and Da-vid's his name.

With my ho-ly oil have I a-noint-ed him;

So that my strength ev-er may a-bide with him;

And so that my pow'r will pro-vide him with strength.

2. The foe won't out-wit him, no e-vil will crush.

I'll crush foes be-fore him, strike down those who hate.

My faith-ful-ness and stead-fast love will be his,

And I in my name prom-ise him vic-to-ry.

3. His reign I es-tab-lish from riv-er to sea,

He'll say to me, 'You are my Fa-ther and God,

My sav-ior and pro-tec-tor are you to me.'

I'll make him my first-born, the great-est of kings.

4. I'll keep him for-ev-er in my stead-fast love,

For him will my cov-e-nant ev-er stand firm.

His dy-na-sty will last as long as the sky,

One of his de-scend-ants will al-ways be king.

5. But if his de-scend-ants do not o-bey me,

And walk not ac-cord-ing to all my com-mands,

Ig-nore my in-struc-tions, my laws do not keep,

They'll suf-fer my pun-ish-ment for all their sins.

6. But I'll still love Da-vid, my prom-ise I'll keep,

I'll not break my cov-e-nant nor change my word.

I swear by my name that I'll not lie to him.

His king-dom and line last like sun, moon, and sky."
