PSALM 78:1-2, 34-38
METER: 77 77 77
SUGGESTED TUNES: DIX, TOPLADY, or PILOT
This is the meter for such hymns as "For the Beauty of the Earth," "Rock of Ages," and "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me."
1. Lis-ten, all, to what I teach,
Pay heed to what I shall say.
I will speak in par-a-bles
And tell mys-t'ries from the past.
When God killed some of his own,
Oth-ers would turn back to him.
2. They'd re-pent and ear-nest-ly
Seek a-gain their Lord and God.
They re-mem-bered God their rock,
The Most High who came to help.
But they did not pray in truth;
They were not sin-cere to God.
3. Their hearts were not true to him,
They kept not his cov-e-nant.
Yet, God was com-pas-sion-ate;
He for-gave, did not de-stroy.
Oft did he re-strain his wrath,
And his an-ger he held back.
