PSALM 71:1-14
METER:  87 87 66 667
TUNE:  EIN FESTE BURG
This is the meter of the hymn "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God"

1.  In you, O Lord, I take refuge;
    Let me be ashamed never.
    In justice save and rescue me;
    Incline your ear to save me.
    O Lord, be unto me
    A rock for my safety,
    A fortress of great strength,
    In which I may be saved,
    For you're my rock and fortress.
2.  Save me, O God, from wicked hands,
    From the unjust and cruel.
    For you, Lord God, are all my hope;
    From days of youth, I trust you.
    Upon you I have leaned,
    Yes, ever since my birth;
    You are the one who took
    Me from my mother's womb.
    I will at all times praise you.
3.  For many I've become a sign,'
    A portent and example.
    You are my strong defender, Lord,
    My refuge strong and mighty.
    My mouth is full of praise
    For you the whole day long.
    Don't leave me when I'm old;
    'When all my strength is gone
    Please don't go away from me.
4.  My enemies about me talk.
    They plot against me always,
    And this is what they say of me,
    "He is forsaken by God,
    Let us pursue and seize,
    For there is none who'll come
    To help or rescue him."
    God, don't stay far away;
    Make haste, come help me quickly!
5.  Let my accusers be ashamed
    And let them be demolished.
    Let scorn and disgrace cover those
    Who only seek to hurt me.
    Continually I will
    Place all my hope in you,
    And I will praise your name
    Yet more and more each day.
    I will at all times praise you.
