PSALM 71:1-14
METER: 87 87 66 667
TUNE: EIN FESTE BURG
This is the meter of the hymn "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God"
1. In you, O Lord, I take ref-uge;
Let me be a-shamed nev-er.
In just-ice save and res-cue me;
In-cline your ear to save me.
O Lord, be unto me
A rock for my safe-ty,
A fort-ress of great strength,
In which I may be saved,
For you're my rock and fort-ress.
2. Save me, O God, from wick-ed hands,
From the un-just and cru-el.
For you, Lord God, are all my hope;
From days of youth, I trust you.
Up-on you I have leaned,
Yes, ev-er since my birth;
You are the one who took
Me from my moth-er's womb.
I will at all times praise you.
3. For man-y I've be-come a sign,
A por-tent and ex-am-ple.
You are my strong de-fend-er, Lord,
My ref-uge strong and migh-ty.
My mouth is full of praise
For you the whole day long.
Don't leave me when I'm old;
When all my strength is gone
Please don't go a-way from me.
4. My en-e-mies a-bout me talk.
They plot a-gainst me al-ways,
And this is what they say of me,
"He is for-sak-en by God,
Let us pur-sue and seize,
For there is none who'll come
To help or res-cue him."
God, don't stay far away;
Make haste, come help me quick-ly!
5. Let my ac-cus-ers be a-shamed
And let them be de-mol-ished.
Let scorn and dis-grace cov-er those
Who on-ly seek to hurt me.
Con-tin-ual-ly I will
Place all my hope in you,
And I will praise your name
Yet more and more each day.
I will at all times praise you.
