PSALM 66:8-20
METER: 65 65 65 65 65 65
SUGGESTED TUNE: ST. GERTRUDE
This is the meter for such hymns as "Onward, Christian Soldiers."
1. Bless our God, all peo-ples,
Let your praise be heard.
He has kept us liv-ing
And not let us fall.
God, we have been test-ed,
Pur-i-fied by fire;
We have been en-trapped, and
Giv-en heav-y loads;
You let foes ride o'er us;
We've known fire and flood;
But now you have brought us
To a boun-teous place.
2. I will bring burnt off-erings
Into your fair house;
I will pay the vows that
I made un-to you
While I was in trou-ble.
I will sac-ri-fice
Fat-lings to be burnt and
Rams to give off smoke;
Bulls and goats I'll off-er
Un-to you, O God.
Come and hear, you peo-ple,
All who fear our God.
3. I will pro-claim to you
What God did for me.
I cried a-loud to him;
I praised him with songs.
Had I held to my sins,
God would not have heard.
But in-deed God heard me,
Took heed to my prayer.
I praise God, who did not
Turn a-way my prayer.
Nor did he re-move his
Stead-fast love from me.
