PSALM 42
METER:  LMD (88 88 D) or LM (88 88)
SUGGESTED TUNE:  HE LEADETH ME

1.  As longs the deer for flow-ing streams,
So longs my soul for you, O God.
I thirst for God, the liv-ing God.
When shall I see the face of God?
My tears have fed me night and day,
While peo-ple say, "Where is your God?"
As I pour out my soul in grief,
These things come to my mind again:
2.  How I went with the mul-ti-tude
And led them all up to God's house
With shouts of joy and songs of praise,
    As we were keep-ing fest-i-val.
Oh, why, my soul, are you cast down?
    Oh, why are you dis-qui-et-ed?
I shall a-gain praise God my help,
And I shall place my hope in him.
3.  My soul with-in me is crushed down,
    And there-fore I re-mem-ber you.
Deep calls to deep when rap-ids roar,
Your waves and bil-lows o'er me go.
By day God shows his con-stant love,
At night his song is still with me,
A prayer to God who gives me life.
And yet I say to God, my rock:
4.  "God, why have you for-got-ten me?
Why do you let my foes op-press?"
They taunt me, say-ing, "Where's your God?"
    I feel like I've a dead-ly wound.
Oh, why, my soul, are you cast down?
    Oh, why are you dis-qui-et-ed?
I shall a-gain praise God my help,
And I shall place my hope in him.
