PSALM 31:9-16
METER: 76 76 D
SUGGESTED TUNE: PASSION CHORALE
This is the meter of the hymn "O Sacred Head, Now Wounded," and should be sung to a tune similar in mood to that hymn.
1. O Lord, have mer-cy on me,
For I am in dis-tress;
From grief my eye is wast-ed;
My soul and bod-y, too.
My life is spent with sor-row,
My years are spent with sighs;
My strength fails, I am sin-ful,
My bones all waste a-way.
2. My foes find me dis-grace-ful,
My neigh-bors wag their heads,
Ac-quaint-anc-es all dread me,
Those in the street take flight.
Like dead ones I'm for-got-ten,
I'm like a bro-ken pot.
I heard much e-vil gos-sip,
"Ter-ror on ev-ery side!"
3. They coun-seled long a-gainst me
And planned to take my life.
Lord, I have trust-ed in you;
I cry, "You are my God."
My times are in your hands, Lord;
Save me from all my foes.
Show fa-vor to your ser-vant,
And save me by your grace.
