This is the meter to such hymns as "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee," "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling," and "Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken."
1. Praise God! It is good to praise him,
For he is a gracious God.
God builds up his holy city;
Gathers Israel's outcasts in.
Yahweh heals the brokenhearted,
And their wounds does he bind up.
He gave ev'ry star its name and
Set how many were to be.
2. Great is God, with plenteous power;
Boundless is his wisdom, too.
God lifts up those trampled under,
But the wicked he casts down.
Sing unto him with thanksgiving;
With the lyre make melody!
He brings clouds to rain upon earth;
He grows grass upon the hills.
3. All the animals he feeds, and
The young ravens when they cry.
He delights not in a warhorse,
Nor in a footsoldier's strength.
God takes pleasure in the ones who
Reverence and fear his name,
And all those who hope in his un-
Changing love. So praise the Lord!
