PSALM 143
METER: 88 88 88
SUGGESTED TUNE: ST. CATHERINE
This is the meter for the hymn "Faith of Our Fathers"
1. Lord, hear my pray'r, list to my plea;
An-swer me, faith-ful right-eous God;
Don't put your ser-vant to the test,
For none is right-eous in your sight.
My foe has hunt-ed and crushed me;
I'm in the dark like those long dead.
2. My spi-rit faints with-in me, Lord;
My heart sinks in-to deep de-spair.
I call to mind the for-mer days;
I think on all that you have done.
I stretch my hands to you in pray'r;
My soul thirsts for you like dry ground.
3. An-swer me, Lord! I've lost all hope.
Don't hide from me, or I shall die.
Re-mind me of your con-stant love,
For I have placed my trust in you.
Teach me the way that I should go,
For I lift up my soul to you.
4. Save me, O Lord, from all my foes.
I come to you where I'll be safe.
Teach me to do your ho-ly will,
For you a-lone, Lord, are my God.
Let your good spi-rit e'er lead me
Up-on a safe and lev-el path.
5. For your name's sake, pre-serve my life;
Save me from trou-ble, Lord my God,
Out of your good-ness and your love;
Cut off my en-e-mies from me,
De-stroy my ad-ver-sa-ries all,
For I'm your serv-ant, Lord my God.
