PSALM 132:1-18 METER: 14 14 11 8 SUGGESTED TUNE: LOBE DEN HERREN This is the meter of the hymn "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty" NOTE: If only using verses 1-12, use stanzas 1-4. 1. O Lord, do not forget all of the hardships of David, How he pledged to the Lord, the Mighty One, God of Jacob: "I'll not go home or rest or get any sleep Until the Lord has his own home." 2. We heard in Bethlehem, we found it in Ja-ar's region: "Let us go to God's home; let us bow down at his footstool." Rise up, O Lord, go to the place of your rest, Come with the ark of your power. 3. Clothe priests with justice, and let joyful people shout praises. For David's sake look with favor upon your anointed. God swore to him an oath which he'll not deny: "One of your sons always shall reign." 4. "If your sons keep the agreement I've made with your people And all the teachings that I will give for their instruction, Their sons as well shall sit and rule from your throne, This is my promise forever." 5. The Lord has chosen to make his home upon Mount Zion: "Here I will always rest, I want to make this my dwelling. I will provide; food I will give to the poor. The priests have always my blessing." 6. "Her people shall rejoice, singing and shouting their praises. Here one of David's sons I will make into a great king. I'll shame his foes; Messiah's lamp I'll prepare, David's crown shines on his count'nance. Stanzas 1-4 reprinted by permission of the publisher from Supplementary Volume to Sing the Psalms by Dale A.
