PSALM 127
METER: LM
SUGGESTED TUNES: OLD 100TH or WOODWORTH
This is the meter of such hymns as "Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow" and "Just as I Am, Without One Plea"
1. If God the Lord builds not the house,
The build-ers do their work in vain.
If o'er the cit-y God watch not,
The watch-er vig-il keeps in vain.
2. 'Tis vain to rise up with the sun
And take no rest till late at night,
To eat the bread of anx-ious toil,
For God gives his be-lov-ed sleep.
3. Lo, child-ren are a her-i-tage
From God, who gives a good re-ward.
Like ar-rows in a war-rior's hand
Are child-ren born in young-er days.
4. Hap-py the one who child-ren has
Like ar-rows in a quiv-er full!
That one shall ne'er be put to shame
When speak-ing with one's en-e-mies.
