PSALM 127 METER: LM SUGGESTED TUNES: OLD 100TH or WOODWORTH This is the meter of such hymns as "Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow" and "Just as I Am, Without One Plea" 1. If God the Lord builds not the house, The builders do their work in vain. If o'er the city God watch not, The watcher vigil keeps in vain. 2. 'Tis vain to rise up with the sun And take no rest till late at night, To eat the bread of anxious toil, For God gives his beloved sleep. 3. Lo, children are a heritage From God, who gives a good reward. Like arrows in a warrior's hand Are children born in younger days. 4. Happy the one who children has Like arrows in a quiver full! That one shall ne'er be put to shame When speaking with one's enemies. Reprinted by permission of the publisher from Sing the Psalms! by Dale A. Schoening. Copyright 1988 Dale A. Schoening. |
