1. I love the Lord, for he hears me;
He listens to me when I pray.
He has inclined his ear to me,
So I'll call on him all my life.
The snares of death encompassed me,
Death's horrors laid their hold on me;
2. Distress and anguish did I know.
I cried out, "Lord, please save my life."
The Lord is merciful and just;
Full of compassion is our God.
The humble ones he does preserve;
When I was brought down, he saved me.
3. Return, my soul, unto your rest,
Because the Lord is good to me.
The Lord has saved my soul from death,
He kept my eyes from shedding tears,
From stumbling he has kept my feet.
I walk with him while in this world.
