PSALM 116:1-9
METER: 88 88 88
SUGGESTED TUNE: ST. CATHERINE
This is the same meter as the hymn "Faith of Our Fathers"
1. I love the Lord, for he hears me;
He lis-tens to me when I pray.
He has in-clined his ear to me,
So I'll call on him all my life.
The snares of death en-com-passed me,
Death's hor-rors laid their hold on me;
2. Dis-tress and an-guish did I know.
I cried out, "Lord, please save my life."
The Lord is mer-ci-ful and just;
Full of com-pas-sion is our God.
The hum-ble ones he does pre-serve;
When I was brought down, he saved me.
3. Re-turn, my soul, un-to your rest,
Be-cause the Lord is good to me.
The Lord has saved my soul from death,
He kept my eyes from shed-ding tears,
From stum-bling he has kept my feet.
I walk with him while in this world.
