EXODUS 15:1b-11, 20-21
(CANTICLE OF MIRIAM AND MOSES)
METER:  77 77 77
SUGGESTED TUNE:  DIX
This is the meter for such hymns as "For the Beauty of the Earth"

1.  I will sing unto the Lord,
    Who won glo-rious vic-to-ry;
    The horse and the rid-er he
    Has thrown down in-to the sea.
    Yah-weh is my strong de-fense,
    My song, and the one who saves.
2.  He's my God, I will praise him,
    I'll ex-alt my fore-bears' God.
    Yah-weh is a war-rior great,
    Yah-weh is his ho-ly name.
    Phar-aoh's char-iots and his host
    He has thrown into the sea.
3.  Phar-aoh's hand-picked of-fic-ers
    Are now in the Red Sea drowned.
    The deep sea has cov-ered them,
    They sank down just like a stone.
    Your right hand, O Lord, is strong,
    In-to bits you break the foe.
4.  In the great-ness of your pow'r
    You de-feat-ed all your foes;
    In your wrath you burned them up.
    With your breath you piled the sea;
    Wat-ers stood up in a heap,
    And the bot-tom firm be-came.
5.  Our foes said, "We will pur-sue,
    O-ver-take, di-vide the spoil.
    With them our de-sire we'll fill.
    We'll de-stroy them with the sword."
    Then you blew the sea o'er them,
    In the depths they sank like lead.
6.  Mir-iam took a tam-bour-ine,
    With the wo-men danced and sang:
   "I will sing un-to the Lord,
    Who won glor-ious vic-to-ry;
    The horse and the rid-er he
    Has thrown down in-to the sea."
